Jack Attack

Last Wednesday I got up bright dark and early and made my way to the airport. I boarded a plane and flew to sunny Southern California. Boy was it beautiful. I’ve been before but never when it was 27* outside at home. We had perfect weather for the 3 full days we were there. We landed before 10 am CA time so we had the majority of the day there. That is the advantage to the crazy early flights. We landed and headed to Camp Pendleton to see my sister-in-law Hannah, brother-in-law Jared, and baby Jack. We spent the first day just staring at him. I kid you not, we couldn’t stop watching him! Every silly face, every sound, and every time he opened his eyes was captivating. Babies are such miraculous things and a true testament to our amazing Creator. We got in lots of snuggles and naps and headed out to eat dinner. After dinner, we were pretty tired, not to mention my body thought it was 2 hours later than what the clock said, so I was in bed by 8:30.

I think he was a little unsure about all of the aunties that showed up to hold him…

He got used to us very quickly though

That is his poop face…

I woke up on Thursday at 6:30. Go figure, my few days to sleep in and I still get up at the same time. Well, technically I did sleep an extra 20 minutes. Thursday was more of sitting and staring, and for me, reading when it wasn’t my turn with the babe. I asked lots of questions about what Hannah likes and about breastfeeding and her delivery. I want to get as much info as I can before it’s my turn! Thursday night I met up with my mom’s side of the family, Monte and Karen. I haven’t seen them for an extended amount of time in at least 4 years so dinner was a must. We met and ate at one of my mom and sister’s favorite places, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto. They were a little bit jealous that I got to eat there. The food there is amazing so if you are ever in Southern CA and see one….GO!!! It was great getting to catch up and hear about the CA family.

Not to worry….the plate in front of me is a shared plate. It had spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli. We also had a huge meatball and a cheese pizza. Yes, there were just 3 of us.

Friday we went to IKEA! Jack’s first big shopping adventure. He did great. Hannah carried him in her Ergo and we walked the whole store. There isn’t an IKEA very close to us at home so when there is a chance to go you take it. We went bowling that night which was of course a lot of fun. It was cosmic bowl and let me tell you, my in-laws are great bowlers. They were smoking the rest of us. After bowling we went back to our little house on the beach and played Yahtzee which was also a lot of fun.

He was dressed up for IKEA. He even wore blue and gold.

Saturday morning was the tough part. We had to go back home. It was definitely hard for Hannah and my mother-in-law, Glenette, to say goodbye. BUT we will get to see them again in 1 month so now we have something to look forward to!! It was a wonderful trip and I’m so glad I was able to see where Hannah and Jared live, see the base, and of course meet Jack. That little guy has no idea how much he is loved and he’s only 3 weeks old. This trip was definitely one that was full of laughter. There were a few times I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Getting to sit and stare at Jack definitely has me wondering what our little babe will look like. We learned that Jack makes funny faces, especially when he is about to fill his diaper, he has chicken hair when he wakes up (just like his Uncle Joe), and he is definitely one of the sweetest babies you will ever meet. I can’t wait to see him again!

 Getting in one last snuggle!

 That chicken hair….just like Joe.

All the Nothum girls with Jack.

16 Weeks

16 Weeks
This week was a really fun week. I spent 3 days in CA visiting family and meeting my new nephew. That trip will get its own post so be looking for that! Other than that, it has been a pretty normal week. I also learned that another of my friends is going to be having a baby in July as well and I’m so very excited for her. This will be baby #2 and I’m so glad ours will be close together. Our birthdays are within 2 weeks of each other and it would be so cool if our babies were that close as well. We don’t get to see each other often, but when you know someone for 20 years or so….you can’t help but be Forever Friends.
How far along: 16 Weeks
Total weight gain: 3 lbs
Maternity clothes: My regular dress pants are still fitting ok, I just don’t button the top 2 buttons. I’m wearing all maternity tops and definitely maternity jeans.
Stretch marks: None but I have been a little itchy so I’m using lots of lotion to keep my skin soft.
Sleep: I’m sleeping much better thanks to the pillow. If I wake up though, I have to go to the bathroom. I’ve been having a lot of crazy dreams this week.
Best moment of this week: Visiting CA! The weather was beautiful and warm, Jack is absolutely perfect, and it was so fun getting to spend time with Joe’s family. We laughed A LOT!!! There were definitely several times where my stomach hurt from all the laughing.
Miss anything: I missed my bed this week while in CA and being able to eat anything I wanted. It’s hard to turn down fresh fish or a Jimmy John’s sandwich. Also, clear skin! My face has never broken out as much as it is right now. It clears up and then breaks out in a new place.
Movement: Not yet…I don’t think. If I have felt it then I didn’t realize it. At my last ultrasound my Dr. noticed my placenta is a little in front so it may take longer to feel movement.
Food cravings: French fries and ketchup!
Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of Subway is not appetizing but mainly because I had a sandwich there a few weeks ago that didn’t settle very well.
Have you started to show yet: Yes, especially when I have on maternity clothes.
Gender: 1 more week!! Looking forward to Feb 3!
Labor signs: None
Belly button in or out: In
Wedding rings on or off: On
Looking forward to: My friend Robyn is coming to visit next week and that means meeting Charlotte for the first time! We already have a plan to watch The Bachelor together and hopefully dinner or lunch on another day so we can get all caught up!
Bonus Picture: I wasn’t quite 16 weeks yet but I had eaten a lot and my Bert bump was looking quite large

Girl’s Weekend

This past weekend 2 of my friends who live out of town came to visit. We don’t all get to see each other very much so we spent a lot of time together this weekend. We started with dinner at Shogun where I found some fully cooked, shell fish only sushi rolls! Ok….so it’s really just a roll, no sushi because of the fully cooked thing but it sure hit the spot. And true to NWA form, it was called the Pig Sooie.

After dinner we went to Paint With A Twist. They provide the canvas, paint, and instructions. All you have to do is paint! It was a lot of fun although from a few of the pictures you would think we were very angry. I’m definitely not a painter but I like my picture more now than I did that night. I would recumbent going if you are looking for something fun to do that you haven’t done before!

See….angry. Actually, just really concentrating.

On Saturday I went to a wedding for another dear friend. Diana and I met in high school when we cheered together and it was such a privilege to get to watch her get married this weekend. And it was so much fun to catch up with two of my other fellow cheerleaders, Emily and Jess.

After the wedding, I met up with Ana and Kim and we saw Into the Woods. We ended the weekend with our traditional Sunday morning brunch at Cathy’s Corner. If you are in Siloam you MUST eat at Cathy’s. Best breakfast you can ever have. It was a wonderful weekend of friends!

15 Weeks

15 Weeks

This week is going to be a very good one! I’m heading to CA on Wednesday to meet my new nephew and spend time with the Nothums/Hohmeiers. I am so excited. I have my suitcase out, my travel size items ready, and I’ve been mentally packing for days!! I absolutely can not wait to board the plane. I’ve been feeling really good this week. Definitely no nausea, the fatigue has let up a bit and I got a pregnancy pillow so I’ve been sleeping a little bit better too. I got the Leachco Snoogle Mini. It is smaller than the typical body pillow so it takes up less room in the bed. It is actually working  out pretty well so far. I also ordered 2 books on breastfeeding so I’m excited to start reading those.

How far along: 15 Weeks

Total weight gain: 2.5 lbs

Maternity clothes: My regular dress pants are still fitting ok, I just don’t button the top 2 buttons. Maternity clothes are more comfortable though so I wear those when I’m not at work.

Stretch marks: None but I have been a little itchy so I’m using lots of lotion to keep my skin soft.

Sleep: I’m sleeping much better thanks to the pillow. If I wake up though, I have to go to the bathroom.

Best moment of this week: I signed a contract with a birth photographer this week. I am so excited to have that decision made and to know someone is going to be there to capture all of the day!

Miss anything: I tried wearing my favorite jeans on Friday and they were pretty uncomfortable so I had to say goodbye to those.

Movement: Not yet, but I keep catching myself being very still trying to feel it!

Food cravings: Lots of chicken and french fries with ketchup. Still not wanting very much sweet but in the mornings I like to have toast with peanut butter and honey to go with my eggs.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!

Have you started to show yet: A little, especially when I’ve eaten a big meal.

Gender: 2.5 more weeks – the past few weeks I’ve been thinking boy but today I’m thinking pink. I can’t wait to know which one!

Labor signs: None

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding rings on or off: On

Looking forward to: The California trip! I can’t wait to hold and snuggle with Jack and talk to Hannah about all things baby. I’ve got lots of questions….I should probably write them down. I love spending time with our families.

It’s That Time Again…

BACHELOR TIME!!!!! The Bachelor started on Monday and as we all know…I love this show. Yes, it is dramatic. Yes, it is generally somewhat pointless. Yes, it is probably a waste of 2 hours. But I can’t help it. I’ve been hooked from season 1. The best part is my sister-in-law, my parents, my husband, and most of my friends all watch it too! So this season we stepped it up a notch. We filled out a bracket.

(Go ahead, roll your eyes….you know you want to) We filled out the bracket before the show even started so mine is pretty much destroyed already but my top 3 are still hanging in there! If by some chance you are interested in a recap check out Sharleen Joynt’s blog here. She was a previous contestant on the show (the dreaded Juan Pablo season) so she has some insight into how the show works and provides a good recap.

Happy Wednesday!

14 Weeks

14 Weeks

I’ve made it to the 2nd trimester! Woohoo! My nausea is gone and it has been replaced by a desire to eat everything in sight. My appt last week went great. Bert was moving around a lot and the heart rate was 143. Everything is looking good. We couldn’t tell quite yet if Bert is a boy or girl but my Dr. said that at my next visit we will definitely be able to find out! Keep your fingers crossed that this baby isn’t shy! Tuesday was my appt and it was a very exciting morning. Not only did I have an appt but my sister-in-law was in labor! Jack was born Tuesday morning and he is so cute!! I can’t wait to meet him. Only 9 more days!!!

How far along: 14 Weeks

Total weight gain: Holding at 2 lbs still! (I’m amazed….I ate A LOT this weekend)

Maternity clothes: Today everything is maternity but I can still wear some of my jeans with the BellaBand or a hair tie and my thick band Express dress pants still fit ok. I think last week I did have to unbutton the top button though. My fitted shirts are tight.

Stretch marks: None

Sleep: Middle of the night potty break and I’ve had some trouble getting comfortable the last few nights. I ordered a pregnancy pillow this weekend though so I’m looking forward to getting that.

Best moment of this week: My dr. appt. went great AND my nephew Jack was born!

Miss anything: Sushi! And some of my favorite t-shirts aren’t fitting through the waist anymore so I’m a bit limited.

Movement: Not yet….My placenta is positioned a bit in front so it may take longer than usual to feel something but my dr says it is only slightly in front so it may not make a difference.

Food cravings: Slim’s Chicken still…that fried chicken and cayenne ranch

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope

Have you started to show yet: If I’m wearing maternity pants it is very evident that I’m getting very thick.

Gender: 3 more weeks!

Labor signs: none

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding rings on or off: On

Looking forward to: Girl’s Night on Friday night! 2 of my good friends who live out of town will be here so we are planning a fun night. (Poor girls…they have no idea I can’t stay up past 10) Next week is the big trip to meet Jack!!

13 Weeks

13 Weeks

I’m a few days late on my 13 week update….but I didn’t miss it so it’s still a win! According to most of what I’ve read, the second trimester starts towards the end of week 13 so I’m excited that next week I will definitely be in the second trimester. The fatigue seems to be getting a bit better, I haven’t napped in a couple of days and the little bit of nausea I’ve had seems to be gone!

How far along: 13 Weeks

Total weight gain: 2 pounds (Thank you Christmas/New Years/the small thing of mint chocolate chip ice cream I ate this weekend)

Maternity clothes: Maternity Shirts with the bella band on my dress pants for work. I’m wearing my maternity jeans.

Stretch marks: None

Sleep: I wake up to go the bathroom between 3-4 but other than that it’s pretty good still.

Best moment of this week: Lots of good food on New Year’s!

Miss anything: Not having indigestion after I eat. It seems to hit after very random meals.

Movement: Not feeling any yet.

Food cravings: Slim’s Chicken with Cayenne Ranch Dressing. I really wanted it this weekend but it is about 30 minutes from the house so I didn’t give in. Maybe for lunch one day this week….

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not this week. I think it is coming to an end!

Have you started to show yet: Not really, only if I’m wearing clothes that accent it. Most people have said they can’t tell yet.

Gender: We don’t know yet but maybe Tuesday at my appt! It is still pretty early but we may be able to get a peak.

Labor signs: None

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding rings on or off: On

Looking forward to: My next appt is Tuesday and we may be able to find out the gender. Even if we can’t just getting a peak at Bert is making me very excited. Also, my sister-in-law is due on Wednesday so we are anxiously awaiting baby Jack! I have predicted he will be here on the 10th but you never know….he may come sooner.
