1 Month

Height: ¬†At her 2 week appt she was 20″

Weight: At her 2 week appt she was 7 lbs 8 oz. I weighed her on my scale and she is now around 9 lbs!

Eat: She eats every 2-3 hours during the day. At night she stretches it to almost 4 hours, then a 3 hour stretch, then back to 2 for the rest of the day. She eats for about 15 minutes total at each feeding.

Play: She is awake for 45 minutes at a time, usually in the morning. In the afternoons she doesn’t stay awake as long. She lets her hands go crazy and kicks her legs! She will sit in her bouncer or swing for about 20 minutes before deciding she is done with it. You can tell she is trying to talk but hasn’t quite got her voice figured out yet.

Sleep: She sleeps for about an hour at a time during the day and at night will sleep for at least 3 hours at a time. Last night she slept for 4.5 hours! It was wonderful! She always has her hands by her face when she sleeps.

The first month has been quite the adventure. The first week I didn’t get much sleep and she was eating around the clock until my milk came in. Things got a little better from there. At this point we have somewhat of a schedule, meaning she eats every 2-3 hours but if she gets hungry before that I feed her and don’t make her wait. I figure I don’t want to wait when I’m hungry, why should she? We are getting to the point though where I can guess at what time each day she will need to eat.

She does seem to have colic. The hours of 7-11pm are pretty rough. Slowly we are figuring it out. Joe seems to be able to calm her down during this time better than I can. I think part of it is that she has been with me all day and a change in scenery is nice but also, at that point in the day he is coming in fresh and I’m getting tired and starting to be in need of sleep.

She lost her umbilical cord just 2 days shy of 4 weeks. It took forever! She also moved up to size 1 diapers on the 4 week mark as well. After we had 2 blowouts (or poo-splosions as I like to call them) in 3 days I figured it may finally be time to move up. She does have a case of diaper rash that I can’t seem to get rid of. We’ve changed the diaper brand and tried 3 different diaper rash creams. The pediatrician recommended something to me yesterday so I’m going to give that a try and see what happens!

Becca loves to sit up. She holds her head up surprisingly well for a newborn. If she is awake she wants to be sitting up and looking around. She smiles in her sleep all the time! She’s given us a few awake smiles but I know they aren’t intentional yet. Her little cheeks are filling out and her hair is still as crazy as the day she was born. She is just the absolute sweetest thing. I love being home with her and getting to snuggle all day. I’m working on getting back into a good rhythm of laundry and grocery shopping and cleaning. I’ve still got a long way to go on those things but I know she won’t ever want to snuggle like she does now ever again. Now, I will provide you with an overload of pictures from the last month…
