Becca’s 1st Birthday

We celebrated Becca’s first birthday with a BIG party! About 50 people were in our house. It was crazy but so very fun! On her actual birthday I made some cupcakes and thought I would do a little photo shoot with her. She wasn’t feeling it. Becca 1st Birthday-5 Becca 1st Birthday-6 Becca 1st Birthday-7

For the big party I didn’t go with a theme, just some colors. I did pink, mint, and gold. I mad the rag banner that is on her highchair and the table. I used this tutorial from Pinterest. Becca’s Birthday Girl shirt was from Oh Sweet Sprouts on Easy. (LOVE THEM!) The tutu was Smocked Auctions  (it isn’t available right now but they always have some good stuff) and the moccs are Freshly Picked (My favorite!). The cake was from Amy Cake’s in Springfield. Oh my gracious it was so good. I don’t think I’ll buy a cake from anywhere else ever again, well as long as I’m in Branson. Joe doesn’t like cake that much and he was eating the leftovers. We did strawberry and almond vanilla with a buttercream frosting. The cake topper was from an Etsy shop, SweetEscapesbyDebbie. The tall candle was also an Etsy find, CohassetPartySupply. The massive balloons were 24 inch balloons from Party City. Getting those into the car was a nightmare. I knocked the top box off the cake and ended up having to put down all of my seats, the carseat was in the front (Becca was at home with dad), and sat with the smash cake basically in my lap. Along with the fresh fruit and flowers I had picked up. What an adventure! She wasn’t too interested in her presents or the cake because there was just too much going on. She was busy being social. It was lots of fun and was a good marker for the end of year 1!

Hank’s Baby Shower

A few weeks ago I got to host a baby shower for my cousin Tori and baby Hank! I couldn’t have done it without my sister’s help. She was responsible for Hank’s big brother Wyatt’s shower as well. You can take a look at that one here. We went with a fishing theme and I thought it came out really cute. It was a fun afternoon and we all got to go eat dinner together afterwards. We don’t all get to see each other as much anymore so anytime we all get to spend together is so special. The most exciting news though is that as you are reading this I am taking pictures of baby Hank! So, happy birthday Hank! We love you so much!!

Farm Life

IMG_0555

No I do not live on a farm…had you for a minute thought didn’t I? Joe’s grandparents live in a small town in Southwest MO and his family has dubbed the place, “The Farm”. It is probably one of my favorite places we go. Everytime we go it is always so much fun. Lots of laughing and LOTS of FOOD!!! It also means we get to see his family more often than we would if the farm didn’t exist. It is a great meeting place for a weekend visit. This past weekend we all made the trip out there. The boys left on Saturday for opening day of trout season in MO and the girls stayed  back and enjoyed a lazy weekend. It ended up snowing all day on Saturday so we stayed tucked in the house watching movies and eating yummy food. And of course…passing around baby Jack!! Hannah is in town which is the biggest reason we planned a visit at the farm. Jack needed to meet his great-grandparents and his uncles! It was so sweet watching Joe hold and play with Jack. He isn’t much of a baby person but he warmed up to Jack pretty quickly. And he got a little practice in before our little girl gets here. Jack and baby cakes will be 6 months apart so I can’t wait until they are both able to play together.

We watched Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Cinderella…the old Lesley Ann Warren version of course.51QJVY2EBFL

I was introduced to it by my aunt when I was young and she got it for me for Christmas a few years ago. I had no idea my mother-in-law loved it too until our trip to CA! So of course I packed that with me.

We also watched the movie Mom’s Night Out. I saw this movie for the first time last week when I was invited by Valerie to a Girl’s Night Out at her church. They watched this movie and had popcorn and snacks.

This movie is really great. Not only is it funny but it has a great message. And I would argue that the message in it isn’t just for moms. I’m not a mom quite yet and I certainly don’t have to juggle multiple kids like these women have to do in the movie but it is a good reminder that we are who God has made us to be. And we can’t expect to be any more than that.

Now for the fun part….the pictures of Jack!! IMG_0566

Jack has gotten so big since our trip to CA. He talks to you and smiles at you. He is so much fun!! Getting snowed in for Saturday wasn’t too bad with this little guy around and by Sunday the main roads were all clear so none of us had any trouble getting home.  If you know me you know I am not a fan of winter. Once Christmas is over, I’m ready for warm sunshine! It is snowing again today but I’m hoping after this we are done!! Bring on the warm weather!!!

Jack Attack

Last Wednesday I got up bright dark and early and made my way to the airport. I boarded a plane and flew to sunny Southern California. Boy was it beautiful. I’ve been before but never when it was 27* outside at home. We had perfect weather for the 3 full days we were there. We landed before 10 am CA time so we had the majority of the day there. That is the advantage to the crazy early flights. We landed and headed to Camp Pendleton to see my sister-in-law Hannah, brother-in-law Jared, and baby Jack. We spent the first day just staring at him. I kid you not, we couldn’t stop watching him! Every silly face, every sound, and every time he opened his eyes was captivating. Babies are such miraculous things and a true testament to our amazing Creator. We got in lots of snuggles and naps and headed out to eat dinner. After dinner, we were pretty tired, not to mention my body thought it was 2 hours later than what the clock said, so I was in bed by 8:30.

I think he was a little unsure about all of the aunties that showed up to hold him…

He got used to us very quickly though

IMG_0500

I woke up on Thursday at 6:30. Go figure, my few days to sleep in and I still get up at the same time. Well, technically I did sleep an extra 20 minutes. Thursday was more of sitting and staring, and for me, reading when it wasn’t my turn with the babe. I asked lots of questions about what Hannah likes and about breastfeeding and her delivery. I want to get as much info as I can before it’s my turn! Thursday night I met up with my mom’s side of the family, Monte and Karen. I haven’t seen them for an extended amount of time in at least 4 years so dinner was a must. We met and ate at one of my mom and sister’s favorite places, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto. They were a little bit jealous that I got to eat there. The food there is amazing so if you are ever in Southern CA and see one….GO!!! It was great getting to catch up and hear about the CA family.

IMG_0504

Not to worry….the plate in front of me is a shared plate. It had spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli. We also had a huge meatball and a cheese pizza. Yes, there were just 3 of us.

Friday we went to IKEA! Jack’s first big shopping adventure. He did great. Hannah carried him in her Ergo and we walked the whole store. There isn’t an IKEA very close to us at home so when there is a chance to go you take it. We went bowling that night which was of course a lot of fun. It was cosmic bowl and let me tell you, my in-laws are great bowlers. They were smoking the rest of us. After bowling we went back to our little house on the beach and played Yahtzee which was also a lot of fun.

IMG_0506

He was dressed up for IKEA. He even wore blue and gold.

Saturday morning was the tough part. We had to go back home. It was definitely hard for Hannah and my mother-in-law, Glenette, to say goodbye. BUT we will get to see them again in 1 month so now we have something to look forward to!! It was a wonderful trip and I’m so glad I was able to see where Hannah and Jared live, see the base, and of course meet Jack. That little guy has no idea how much he is loved and he’s only 3 weeks old. This trip was definitely one that was full of laughter. There were a few times I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Getting to sit and stare at Jack definitely has me wondering what our little babe will look like. We learned that Jack makes funny faces, especially when he is about to fill his diaper, he has chicken hair when he wakes up (just like his Uncle Joe), and he is definitely one of the sweetest babies you will ever meet. I can’t wait to see him again!

Jack’s Baby Shower

The Saturday after Charlotte’s baby shower I was at it again. Only this time, I didn’t do quite as much work since the shower was in St. Louis where my in-laws live. It was held at my sister-in-law’s house. Hannah made her own cupcakes and cookies (she’s really good at that stuff and volunteered for it) and the rest of us spent the morning cutting up fruit for salads and putting up some decorations. We played the dirty diaper game where you melt candy into a diaper and the guests have to guess what the candy used to be. We learned the hard way that diapers are not meant to go in the microwave. One of Hannah’s gifts was the quilt for Jack’s crib. My mother-in-law made it and it is gorgeous! I’ve already signed her up to make all of my future children’s bedding haha! It was a really fun weekend and I’m so glad we were able to see Hannah before Jack is born! Next time I see her she will have a baby! I can’t wait to snuggle with my nephew in CA in January (and leave freezing cold AR behind for a few days)!

27….Redux

This past weekend I turned 27. We went to Joe’s grandparent’s farm in MO. We played croquet (which I’m terrible at), ate lots of food, and got to feel my nephew kick!! Joe also shot a really big deer which means my living room is about to get a new wall decoration. AND more importantly my freezer is filling up. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law made me an apple pie and my favorite meal! It was a great Nothum weekend. I can’t wait to see them all again in just a few weeks for baby Jack’s baby shower!

No Baby Yet…

Since I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of my cousin AND my first birth photog experience I decided I want to blog about the whole thing, not just the pictures at the end.

IMG_0341-0

Last Sunday I got the long awaited text of…I may be in labor. Tori let me know she had been having contractions for several hours. They were 5-1-1 (5 minutes apar, 1 minute long, for 1 hour) but her Dr. could tell over the phone they weren’t intense enough. So she waited. 2 hours later, they had definitely picked up in intensity. She and husband Garret headed to the hospital. I was bouncing off the walls with excitement. I double checked my bag, made sure I was dressed comfortably, and made the necessary phone calls saying I may not be at work the next day. And then I waited. Thank goodness for the DVD set of Friends. Ironically, the episode where Phoebe has triplets was on. I just knew it was a sign. Around 8 I checked in and she wasn’t progressing so they were staying for another hour. About an hour later they were sent home. Her contractions were great but she wasn’t progressing any.

IMG_0342

I was fully anticipating a call in the middle of the night saying, “OK, here we go!” but no such luck. We were all disappointed that Wyatt didn’t make his appearance last weekend and I know that Tori and Garret are so ready for him to be here! It was so much fun getting those texts and anticipating what was going to happen. I can’t wait for the next text/call!!
